Classic Butter Cookies Recipe: A Delightful Treat for Any Occasion

A timeless staple that works well for every occasion are butter cookies. These buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cookies will be a hit at any tea party, special occasion, or just when you're craving something sweet.  Both children and adults love them for their delicate texture and delicious flavour.  With only a few basic components, they are also quite simple to produce.  Make your own batch of mouthwatering butter cookies that will have everyone begging for more by following this easy recipe.

Ingredients:
1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
1/4 cup (50g) powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg yolk (optional, for richer flavor)
Sprinkles or extra sugar for decoration (optional)

Tools Required:
Mixing bowl: manual whisk or electric mixer
parchment paper and baking sheet
Optional: piping bag or cookie cutter
Rack for cooling

Time Spent Preparation: 15 minutes
Cook for 12 to 15 minutes.

Directions:
Preheat the Oven:

Set the oven's temperature to 350°F (175°C).  Lay parchment paper on a baking pan and place it aside.

Cream the Butter and Sugars: 
Put the softened butter, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar in a big mixing bowl. Beat the mixture for two to three minutes, or until it is light and fluffy, using an electric mixer or a hand whisk.

Add Egg Yolk and Vanilla: 
Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract to the butter mixture if you're using one.  Stir until thoroughly blended.

Add Dry Ingredients: 
Slowly combine the butter mixture with the flour and salt.  Until the dough comes together, mix on low speed.  Take care not to mix too much.

Form the Cookies, there are two methods to form the cookies:
Roll and Cut: On a surface dusted with flour, roll out the dough to a thickness of approximately 1/4 inch.  Cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
Pipe: To create a more conventional appearance, pipe the dough into tiny swirls or rosettes using a piping bag with a star tip.

Decorate: 
For a festive look, you can add sprinkles or dust the cookies with powdered sugar.

Bake: 
Arrange the cookies on the baking sheet that has been prepared, allowing a gap of roughly 1 inch between them.  Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn brown, in a preheated oven.

Cool: 
Take the cookies out of the oven, allow them to cool on the baking sheet for five minutes, and then move them to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
